KIOXIA America has launched the EG7 Series, a new line of client SSDs that marks the first time its BiCS FLASH generation 8 QLC—equipped with CMOS directly Bonded to Array (CBA) technology—has been introduced to this segment. KIOXIA states the new series is engineered to help PC manufacturers deliver high-performance, power-efficient storage across a broader range of systems at a more affordable price point. Capacity options will include 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB variants.

KIOXIA EG7 Series Performance and Main Features
The EG7 Series utilizes 4-bit-per-cell (quadruple-level cell) NAND flash. QLC storage is commonly used in budget-friendly systems, but it has long been questioned over whether it can match the everyday performance of TLC-based drives. KIOXIA positions the EG7 Series as a solution to this doubt, noting that the new SSDs can deliver TLC-equivalent performance while reducing the total cost of ownership for PC makers developing mainstream and more cost-sensitive systems.
In terms of performance, the drives offer random read and write speeds of up to 1,000 KIOPS. Sequential read speeds hit a maximum of 7,000MB/s, while sequential write speeds reach as high as 6,200MB/s—placing the EG7 Series on par with modern PCIe Gen4 client SSDs.

The EG7 Series also supports the NVMe 2.0d specification, which KIOXIA notes will grant PC OEMs greater flexibility in device management and overall system design.
KIOXIA EG7 Series Form Factors, Design, and Security
KIOXIA offers the drives in multiple M.2 form factors: Type 2230, Type 2242, and Type 2280. This variety enables the EG7 Series to fit in compact devices with limited board space, as well as in more traditional notebook and desktop setups. The smaller 2230 and 2242 formats are particularly important, as thin-and-light systems and compact PCs often rely on shorter SSD layouts.
The EG7 Series also features a DRAM-less design. Instead of relying on onboard DRAM, the drives leverage Host Memory Buffer (HMB) technology, which uses a portion of system memory to assist with SSD function management. This design is typical in more budget-oriented storage products, helping to lower total ownership costs and reduce power consumption without compromising responsive performance.
The drives support TCG Opal version 2.02 self-encrypting drive (SED) functionality—a key feature for business systems that demand hardware-based security. This specification, developed by the Trusted Computing Group (TCG), provides a hierarchy of security management standards to protect data from theft and tampering by unauthorized users.
As storage vendors push higher-density flash into a wider array of devices—driven by manufacturers seeking more capacity without significant system cost increases—the EG7 Series gives OEMs an additional option for mainstream PCs that need to balance performance, power efficiency, and affordability. The underlying BiCS FLASH generation 8 QLC technology, with its CBA innovation, delivers improved bit density and power efficiency, further enhancing the series’ value proposition.
KIOXIA EG7 Series Availability
The EG7 Series is currently being sampled by select PC OEM customers. Systems equipped with the new SSDs are anticipated to start shipping in the second quarter of 2026.
